Handmade cards
It’s Claire, thanks for being here!
I am a 27-year-old card-maker and content creator located in Boston, Massachusetts. I am half Japanese (father is from Tokyo), grew up on Cape Cod, and a lover of crafting cute things. I’m also pursuing my MBA and will finish December 2024!
Prior to Rice Note, I worked a corporate job for 5 years (a fantastic company) however I knew I needed to be doing something creative. I was traveling every week, staying in hotels, and had no time to do the things I loved.
Christmas Eve of 2023, I visited my sister in North Carolina and spent the entire day with her handcrafting 2 cards. I fell in love with the process and the excitement of gifting the homemade art to my loved ones. That’s when I discovered the cozy world of card-making, and started Rice Note on January 5.
Outside of card-making, I love dancing ballet. I danced competitively when I was in grade school and took a hiatus for 9 years to focus on school and work on mental health. I have now gotten back into ballet and have an entirely new relationship with the art.
Rice:
Rice originated from my love for rice (I eat it every day!) and rice being a huge part of Japanese culture. There is symbolism in rice such as prosperity and the essence of life. The Japanese also believed that there are 7 gods in every grain of rice.
Note:
The story of Note is more personal. I was at the bottom of the totem pole (think, intern) when I was working for my corporate job. I wrote a thank-you email to the Assistant General Manager (think, #2 guy in a large corporate company). I did not expect a reply, I know he receives hundreds of emails a day more important than mine. But then I saw his reply in my inbox. The email read, “Thanks for the note, Claire! Have a great day.”
Something about the word choice of “note” stuck with me. The manager’s response was short compared to my email, but it was a little note that carried heavy meaning. Since then, I always thank people with a little note.
